Privacy Policy

Introduction

Remi is operated by Encourage Software LLC("Remi", "we", "us", or "our"). We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we process, collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our iOS app and website (collectively, the "Service").

Remi does not create a Remi username or password. You use the app on your device, optionally with your Apple ID for App Store purchases and iCloud.

Where your memories live

People, notes, photos, reminders, and related data are stored on your device first. If you leave iCloud private sync on in Preferences, that library syncs through your iCloud account (CloudKit private database). We cannot read that iCloud data.

We do not host a copy of your memory library on Remi servers. When you use AI features, we send only the excerpts needed for that request (see AI features below). Those excerpts are not kept as your journal.

Information We Process or Collect

Identifiers and subscriptions

The app creates an anonymous client identifier on your device (stored in the Keychain) so we can apply usage limits and align analytics. If you subscribe to Remi Premium, Apple subscription receipts (including an original transaction identifier) are sent to our servers so we can confirm entitlement and apply Premium quotas. We do not collect your name, email, or phone number in the app. If you email support or privacy, we receive whatever you include in that message.

Contacts you choose to connect

If you import or link contacts, Remi may read names, nicknames, contact photos, and birthdays you select, to help you organize people. We do not request phone numbers or email addresses from Contacts. Contacts stay on your device (and in your iCloud if sync is on) unless a name appears in an AI request you make.

Notes, photos, calendar, location, and speech

• Notes and memories you save live on device (and optional iCloud). Excerpts may be sent for AI features you request.
• Photos you attach, and an optional scan of recent library additions to suggest creating a memory, stay on device / your iCloud. We do not upload memory photos to Remi servers for AI.
• Calendar access is used to link events to memories, show events in the app, and (when you confirm) add events. Ask Remi may send event titles, times, locations, and link flags. If you ask about one specific event, a short clip of that event's notes may be included. We do not send your full calendar.
• Location may be used, if you allow it, to fill where a memory happened. Coordinates stay on device / your iCloud. Place names and addresses may appear in AI excerpts.
• Microphone and speech are used only for dictating notes. Recognition is on-device. Audio is not sent to Remi.

Usage data

We use PostHog for product analytics (screens opened, onboarding steps, feature usage, and similar events). Events are tied to the anonymous client identifier, not to note text or contact content. PostHog may also receive device type, operating system, and IP address as part of standard ingest.

How We Use Your Information

We use this information to:

• Operate the app, including optional iCloud sync you control
• Provide AI features you request (Ask Remi, insights, highlight reels)
• Confirm Premium purchases and apply usage limits
• Understand how the product is used so we can improve it
• Respond when you contact us
• Comply with legal obligations

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your notes to train AI models for other users or unrelated products. We do not use analytics for advertising or tracking as Apple defines that term.

AI Features

When you use Ask Remi, person insights, Weekly Highlights, or Our Journey, the app sends a bounded set of excerpts from your device to Remi servers, which forward them to a third-party AI provider (currently Anthropic) to generate the response or reel you asked for. Depending on the question, excerpts can include note text, person and group names, relationship labels, interests, place names, reminder titles and due dates, and calendar event details as described above.

Retrieval of which memories to send is performed on your device. We do not keep those excerpts as a Remi-hosted copy of your journal after serving the request. Saved AI outputs (for example a generated reel or an Ask chat stored in the app) remain on your device and optional iCloud until you delete them.

Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information. We may share information only in these cases:

• Service providers: Apple (App Store, iCloud, on-device speech), our AI provider for requested features, PostHog for analytics, and hosting for the Remi API. They process data only to provide their service to us.
• Legal requirements: When required by law or to protect rights and safety
• Business transfers: In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets. Your on-device and private iCloud library is not a Remi-hosted archive we can transfer.

Data Security

Traffic to Remi servers uses HTTPS. Data on your iPhone or iPad is protected by iOS. Optional sync uses Apple iCloud. We do not offer a separate Remi note-encryption feature, and we do not claim that notes never leave your device — AI features send excerpts as described above.

No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Data Retention

Memories you save remain on your device and, if enabled, in your iCloud until you delete them or turn off sync according to Apple’s behavior. We retain anonymous client identifiers, subscription entitlement records, analytics events, and support emails only as long as needed to provide the Service, enforce quotas, debug issues, and meet legal obligations.

AI request excerpts are not retained as your journal on Remi servers after processing.

Your Rights and Choices

You can:

• Turn off iCloud private sync, location autofill, photo suggestions, and AI features you do not want to use
• Revoke Contacts, Photos, Calendar, Location, Microphone, and Speech access in iOS Settings
• Delete people, memories, and the app (and manage iCloud data through Apple)
• Cancel Premium in your Apple ID subscription settings
• Email us to request access to or deletion of data we hold (identifiers, entitlement records, analytics, support mail). We cannot remotely wipe the copy on your device or in your private iCloud.

The app does not currently include a bulk file export. You can copy individual notes. Contact us if you need help with data we store.

Children's Privacy

Remi is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us information, contact us so we can delete it.

International Data Transfers

Remi servers, our AI provider, and analytics may process data outside your country of residence. Those countries may have different data protection laws. We use providers we believe are appropriate for this Service and transmit AI excerpts only to fulfill a request you make.

California Privacy Rights

California residents have additional rights under the CCPA, including:

• Right to know what personal information is collected
• Right to delete personal information we hold
• Right to opt-out of the sale of personal information (we do not sell personal information)
• Right to non-discrimination

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. Changes will be posted on this page with the "Last Updated" date. Continued use of Remi after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Privacy Policy.
